What you send and what comes back

You send three photographs of yourself. Not a shoot — the ones already on your phone, as long as your face is clearly visible, reasonably lit and reasonably recent. More than three helps; ten is not needed here, though it is elsewhere, and the reason for that difference is the next section.

What comes back is forty finished portraits, in about ten minutes. They are the same person across different grounds — a grey seamless, a white field, a softly blurred office, window light, a building exterior — in different crops: tight ones that survive a profile circle, medium ones with room for text beside your head, and a 16:9 frame composed wide rather than cut down, which is what a banner or a site header needs. You download individual pictures or the whole set and they are yours to keep.

Ten minutes, not a booked afternoon

Most services in this category fit a small model to your face before they generate anything. That fitting is the wait — thirty minutes, an hour, sometimes overnight — and it is also why they ask for ten to fifteen photographs, because a model needs examples. Afterwards there is a model of your face sitting on somebody's server.

This one reads your face from the references at the moment it makes each picture. Nothing is fitted, which is where the ten minutes comes from, and there is no model of you to delete afterwards because none was made. Your reference photographs are deleted within thirty days automatically, and immediately if you press the button on your own page.

How this is different from a free generator

There is a free tool on this site and it is worth trying first, because it costs nothing and it sometimes ends the problem. It cuts you out of a photograph and puts you on a clean backdrop, in your browser, with nothing uploaded anywhere. What it cannot do is relight your face: if the original was shot under a ceiling light at nine in the evening, a new backdrop behind that face still reads as a photograph taken under a ceiling light at nine in the evening.

That is the whole line between the two. Free changes the background and the framing. Paid changes the light, the ground and the wardrobe, and gives you forty of them instead of one. If your existing photograph is well lit and you only need it tidied, use the free one and keep the money.
